Sorority Members Empower Young Girls With Charm!


Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Delta Lambda Omega Chapter hosted its annual Leadership & Mentoring Charm Clinic June 4-7, 2019. Thirty-eight young girls, eleven to seventeen years old, from the local community participated in the four-day charm clinic held at the ALEMAP Foundation on Quilen Road. The theme for the charm clinic was Exemplifying Leadership Through Charm.

Throughout the event, participants were engaged in various interactive presentations that included topics such as Social Graces; Empowering Myself to Lead; Looking Good As I Lead; Body, Mind, and Emotions; Loving Me: Self-Confidence and Self-Awareness in Relationships; Human Trafficking; and Communicating Effectively. The charm clinic provided the girls with an opportunity to interrelate with experts and professionals from a variety of disciplines. The week ended with a graduation ceremony where several participants presented visual and performing arts to a delighted audience. Each student received a certificate of participation as well as a charm clinic backpack stuffed with gifts and surprises! The festivities concluded with a reception.

Participants in the program included Marissa Antwine, Tatianna Arthur, Ajau Baker, Amaris Bingham, Marlisha Black, Jaliah Bowles, Jzyria Crow, Szyion Fields, Zoe’ Gaines, Gabrielle George, Desuriya Gibson, Nykeria Gibson, Martieja Harvey, Sachiri Hendrson, Carrington Hill, Janayja Howard, Janireya Howard, McKinzey Jackson, India Jones, Shamyia Kinsey, Jacie Lawrence, Skyla Lee, Leitani McCray, N’diyae McNeal, Mikayia Milton, Sha’miya Mitchell, Shyterrica Myles, Angelique Payne, Marnesecia Perry, Trelani Pillows, Chaniyah Robertson, Macie Smith, Tyla Small, Miyanah Smith, AuNajhi Taylor, Brooklyn Taylor, Chadestiny Taylor, Erin Taylor, Sikurrea Taylor, Simieva Taylor, Trinitee Taylor, Victaygiah Taylor, Malaysha Thomas, Ayannah Walker, Kylar Washington, Sydnee Wells, Semaj Williams, and Kennedi Wilson.

Presenters during the four-day event included Sharon Bartley, Mone’ Bryant, Renee Ellis, Raquel Fuggins, Constance Greggs, Gwendolyn Casey-Hines, Glo Houston, Lisa Myles Jackson, LeShonda Lindsey, Sharon McCarty, Vickie McDonald, Rosalind Spain, Victoria W. Wade, Rosie Weston-Hudson, and Corporal Connie Ingles of the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Department. The annual Leadership & Mentoring Charm Clinic is a collaboration of Ivy Crown Community Services Foundation and the Caddo Parish Commission along with Delta Lambda Omega Chapter. Chairman of the Leadership & Mentoring Charm Clinic committee was Ammie Washington. Her co-chairmen included Carolyn Snow Lewis and Victoria W. Wade. Connie Seets Reynolds currently serves as president of Delta Lambda Omega chapter.
